About This Spot

Stepping into Spry Wines feels like finding a quiet nook in the heart of Edinburgh where thoughtful curation meets warm conviviality. The space embraces a restrained minimalism that somehow radiates comfort, inviting you to slow down and savour the moment. It’s the kind of wine bar that doesn’t rush you, where the soft hum of conversation and the gentle clink of glasses set a calm, unhurried rhythm for the evening.

Whether you arrive escaping a damp city drizzle or seeking a spot to linger long after work, there’s an intimacy here that encourages connection — with friends, with the staff, and most definitely with the wine itself. The team’s friendly attentiveness creates an experience that feels personal rather than packaged, guiding you through an intriguing wine list dotted with unique finds and natural selections that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Small plates appear not just to feed but to enhance the drinking experience, each dish quietly adventurous with unexpected flavour pairings and textures. From fresh cheeses drizzled in olive oil to delicate bursts of cured trout and the occasional twist like an olive oil martini or a surprising olive oil ice cream, the menu invites sharing and discovery. It’s a place that motivates you to ask questions, experiment, and savour a table scattered with tastes that complement rather than compete with your glass.

Spry Wines feels equally suited for a cosy evening retreat and an exploratory session with friends who appreciate the thoughtful details. The atmosphere is calm yet quietly vibrant, marked by genuine enthusiasm rather than hype. Here, each visit offers a subtle unfolding of new flavours and moments — the kind that linger gently, like the afterglow of a well-poured glass shared in good company.

My friend recommended this we cute place and I loved it! Loads of variety of unique wines that you can't see in another places. Food was very nice, small plates to share were delicious and presentation very good. Staff very friendly and helpful with the choice of the wine. Our waitress was very attentive all the time. The only bad thing I could say and it wasn't a problem it was the food service was a wee bit slow but the place was very busy then we could understand.

fancyish little spot perfect for a cosy rainy evening out… lovely plates and wines, our server was super patient and knowledgeable about the menus and gave great recommendations for both food and wine.

Lovely cosy spot to snuggle into for drinks / bites before dinner...or for dinner itself (we did the former but the menu looked lovely!). We were greeted so warmly by Mrtyle and Eve who talked us through the things we were interested in, and gave us such a lovely experience. I tucked into the non alcoholic options many of which are homemade with ferments and tinctures. My husband tried a polish orange and an English white, he loved both! The place is filled with friends catching up, and the ambience is super calm and relaxing music. Highly recommend for those visiting Edinburgh.

We stopped in spontaneously to escape the rain and were lucky to get a seat. It seems to be a very popular spot, and it’s easy to see why. We received great wine recommendations and enjoyed some delicious food. The salami and homemade gnocchi were especially excellent.

Amazing experience at Spry Wines. The food was amazing and had such interesting flavour combinations! The camembert basque cheesecake was so delicious and so interesting. The place is very minimalistic and the staff are all very friendly. The prices are quite expensive for the portion sizes but we were happy to pay the amount for the experience.

Stellar experience. First the wine was very refreshing and simply delicious. The selection and pairings with the food was perfect. Then the food itself was delicate, diverse and sometimes even complex, but always with pleasure and taste as the center. The chef is very skilled, and the whole crew makes for the best hosts. I recommend fully
